Principals

Benoit P. Pous Bertran de Balanda

Managing Partner

Benoit is Founder and Managing Partner at Black Tulip Asset Management LLC and Black Tulip Media LLC. He is also Founder and President of The Black Tulip Organization Inc. with over 16 years of experience and $375 million USD in transactions and investments, including Trump SoHo New York. Prior to founding the firm, Benoît practiced as an attorney in Europe and served as Managing Partner of a New York-based investment banking boutique specialized in corporate finance, M&A, private equity, venture capital and real estate investments between the United States, Latin America and Europe.

Benoit is also an active member of the Real Estate Board of New York and the American Bar Association. He is a frequent contributor to U.S. and European media, including the New York Times, Le Figaro or Les Échos, and published a guide on real estate investments in Manhattan in the neighborhood of SoHo.

Oliver Gilly

Managing Partner

Oliver is Founder and Managing Partner at Black Tulip Asset Management LLC and Black Tulip Media LLC. With over 21 years of experience in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, he is specialized in strategic advisory, mergers and acquisitions, and solutions-driven transaction work, and has closed over USD 2 billion across the capital structure.

Prior to founding Black Tulip, Oliver served as Head of Strategy for Semeiotics, a Hong Kong family office, and as Director at
Clairfield International, and founded Troy Capital Ltd, a Hong Kong-based principal investment and advisory firm. He started his
career in the Securitization Team at Standard & Poor’s and Debt Capital Markets (Corporate Bond Origination) at Barclays Capital.

Oliver graduated with an MA (Hons) from the University of Edinburgh and a Diploma of Applied Finance from the Financial
Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA). He is married with 2 children and lives in Chicago, IL.

Ron D'Vari

Non-Executive Chairman

Ron D’Vari is the Non-Executive Chairman of BTAM and heads the Advisory Board, and is the Executive Chairman of NewOak Capital. In this role, Dr. D’Vari leads the analyses concerning portfolio construction, structuring, securitization, portfolio management, valuation, credit and market risks and trading management. D’Vari has over 30 years of experience in finance, academics, and engineering. He is an expert in portfolio and risk management, fundamental and quantitative credit, structured finance, portfolio alpha strategies and innovative structured solutions.

Prior to forming NewOak, D’Vari was the Head of Structured Finance and Alternatives at BlackRock, managing a USD 90bn portfolio, and served on Portfolio Strategy Group, Fixed Income Business, Alternative, and New Product Committees. Prior to acquisition by BlackRock, Dr. D’Vari worked at State Street Research (SSRM) for 12 years culminating to joining the executive team responsible for the fixed-income asset management business of SSRM. He was a member of the firm’s Bond Policy Committee that managed USD 27 billion of fixed-income assets, and he established and led State Street’s collateralized debt obligation business and quantitative research team.

D’Vari holds B.S., M.S., Ph.D., and MBA from UCLA and is a CFA charter holder and has FINRA Series 24, 53, 7,and 63 licenses.

Laurent Lavigne du Cadet

Senior Advisor

Laurent is Senior Advisor to BTAM’s advisory board and is Managing Partner at Orchestra Finance LLP , an FCA UK regulated investment bank. Formerly Senior Advisor at Dentons US LLP, the largest law firm in the world, he was a member of the Energy and Infrastructure practice and provided Dentons clients with financial and deal structuring advice. He is known as a professional placement agent and innovative debt raiser. Laurent is an experienced senior manager with more than 25 years in international business, as a company founder, decision maker, investment banker and financial advisor. He has been the CEO and CFO of several global investment companies, a fund manager and has raised more than US$3 billion in equity and US$5 billion in debt during his career. Laurent focuses on project financing and direct investment, with a main focus in energy, renewable, biofuels, and technology. He has extensive experience in high-level negotiations between Western industrial/financial groups and governments or public authorities. Laurent has developed an expertise in business takeovers and corporate turnaround and restructurings. He was recently CEO of GCM GAMMA CAPITAL INC. (SEC regulated investment adviser), Deputy CEO of Taylor-DeJongh, a leading US investment banking firm specialized in the financing of major energy and infrastructure projects, CEO of AMWAL BANK in Qatar and Managing Director at Dubai Islamic Bank.
